Got something to say about trauma, recovery, community or how we build something better?
Louder Than Words is powered by contributors who don’t just comment on the world, they help change it. We’re here for sharp takes, lived experience, community wisdom, and research that actually matters. Whether you're a first-time writer or a seasoned voice, if your words spark action or make someone feel seen, we want to hear from you.
We're especially keen on pieces that break things down clearly, call things out bravely, or lift up stories that don’t get enough airtime.
Think: guides for surviving the aftermath, reflections on collective care, challenges to broken systems, or tools for turning pain into power.
We’re not after fluff or fence-sitting. We’re building a library of truth-telling, and your voice is essential.
Pitch your piece to hello@reflex.org.au
We publish articles, guides, reflections, and resources that sit at the messy intersection of trauma, community care, and systemic change. Your piece doesn’t have to be polished or academic—but it does need to feel real. We’re here for:
Lived experience told with courage and clarity
Practical guides that help people support themselves or others
Calls to action that spark outrage and offer solutions
Critical takes on mental health, justice, care, and access
First-person storytelling that makes people feel seen
Toolkits, listicles, how-to’s, and visual explainers are all welcome
We’re not here for:
Anyone. Seriously. If your voice is rooted in care, justice, and community, you’re welcome here. No publishing credits or fancy titles needed. We especially encourage submissions from people with lived experience of trauma, and perspectives from writers who are excluded, unheard, or misrepresented in current discourse. If the system wasn’t built for you, your perspective is exactly what we need.
Email us at hello@reflex.org.au with:
A short bio (1-2 lines is fine—we don’t need a résumé)
A pitch or draft (you don’t need to have it all figured out, we’re happy to workshop it)
A few lines about why you want to write this piece, or who it’s for
If we love it, we’ll reach out to chat next steps. If it’s not a fit, we’ll let you know respectfully. Either way, we value your voice.
Right now, Louder Than Words is a labour of love, built by a small team trying to make noise where it counts. We don’t often have the budget to pay contributors, but we’re working on changing that and we’ll always be upfront about what we can offer.
We won’t ask you to mine your trauma for free. What we’re looking for is thought, insight, and perspective, shared on your terms. If you choose to write with us, we’ll treat your work with respect, amplify it across our platforms, and credit you however you want.
We also know that not everyone can afford to work unpaid. If an honorarium would make it possible for you to contribute, let us know when you pitch. We’ll always be honest about what we can offer, and we’ll never ask you to justify your worth.
